‘Eiffel Excellence programme‘ Scholarships

‘Eiffel Excellence programme‘ SCHOLARSHIPS offered by the French Ministry of Foreign and European Affairs.  Eiffel excellence scholarships are awarded to high-achieving overseas students to whom French higher education institutions would like to offer a place on a Master’s or PhD course.

Objectives of Eiffel programme

- to offer French higher-education opportunities for future public- and private-sector decision-makers in three priority areas: science; economics & management; law & political science.

- to reach students from emerging countries (with priority on Asia, Latin America, Eastern Europe, the Middle East and new members of the European Union), while PhD scholarships also address students from industrialized countries.

Areas of study covered by the Eiffel programme

Eiffel grants cover the following subject areas:

* Engineering sciences for the Master’s course, and sciences in a broader sense for the PhD course (engineering sciences, exact sciences (mathematics, physics, chemistry) life sciences, nano- and bio-technologies, environment sciences, and information & communication sciences).

* Economics and management.

* Law and political science.

A perfect command of the French language is not a selection criteria as non French-speaking Eiffel Scholars can attend French language courses before the start of their studies and during their stay, in liaison with the host institution.

Academic levels covered by the Eiffel programme

* Master’s course

* PhD course co-tutored or co-managed with partner higher education centre in the student’s country of origin

Candidates must not be aged over 30 (born after 01/01/1979) for a Master’s scholarship or over 35 (born after 01/01/1974) for a PhD scholarship.

Application procedure

Interested candidates should apply for a course offered by a French University or Higher education institution and show that they are interested in benefiting from the Eiffel Programme.

Applications for Eiffel grants are then submitted by the French higher education institution from a shortlist of outstanding students they would like to enrol on their courses.

Applications are not accepted from students themselves, or from non-French centres.

Schedule

The schedule for the 2009/10 Eiffel programme is as follows:

* Application forms available online: September 2008

* Applications to be submitted by 9th January 2009

* Results announced in week beginning 23rd March 2009

In addition, the programme meets various expenses including return travel, health insurance and cultural activities. Scholarship-holders might also be eligible for additional accommodation allowance.

French Embassy assistance

The French Embassy to Malta can present potential candidates to French Higher educational institutions, however, students’ applications are submitted to the French Ministry of Foreign Affairs by the institutions themselves who would have selected the best applicants after an assessment by boards of University teachers specializing in the fields concerned.

Students are welcome to select an appropriate Masters or PhD programme available at any French Higher institution and to present their motivation to us should they require our back-up before contacting the institution.

Motivations supported by a reference will be privileged.
