Destination Australia Funds Program provides funding to eligible tertiary education providers so that domestic and international students can study and live in regional Australia.
The Australia Destination Program:
- Promotes activities that contribute to the growth and sustainability of regional and remote Australian tertiary education providers.
- Provides students from Australia and around the world with the opportunity to pursue high-quality education, training, and research while also experiencing life in regional and remote Australia.
- Ensures that regions benefit from the social, cultural, and economic advantages that international students bring.
In accordance with the Australian Bureau of Statistics Australian Statistical Geography Standard Remoteness Structure, the Destination Australia Program defines a regional location as any area outside of Australia’s Major Cities.
Destination Australia Funds Program 2023
The scholarship funding for the 2023 round of the program is up to $15,000 per student, per year, for approximately 480 domestic and international students starting their studies in 2023.
Additional goals for 2023 include:
- Helping to address skill shortages and meet future skill requirements by prioritizing domestic and international students studying courses aligned with the Australian Government’s National Skills Priority List.
- Scholarships for domestic students from underrepresented groups to pursue tertiary education in regional Australia.
On February 15, 2023, Minister Chisholm announced the results of the Destination Australia Program 2023 funding round.
Eligibility Criteria For Destination Australia Funds Program 2023
To be eligible for the Destination Australia Funds Scholarship program, applicants must meet the following requirements:
- In the 2023 academic year, begin a new full-time course of study with an approved provider.
- The course is part of the Australian Qualifications Framework, with levels ranging from Certificate IV to PhD and durations ranging from one to four years.
- Reside in a regional area at the start of and throughout the study period (according to the Australian Statistical Geography Standard Remoteness Structure).
For International Students:
- Maintain a valid student visa for the duration of their scholarship
- Accept an offer of a full-time study program registered on CRICOS.
